Curated by Jonathan Wells and Meg Grey Wells of Flux, Spectacle: The Music Video explores music video as an important and influential art form in contemporary culture. From big band, jazz, and swing stars of the 1940s to the MTV megastars and Seattle’s own Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, this exhibit traces the evolution of the medium and cements its place at the forefront of creative technology. Project Goals: Given the wide variety of content that spanned decades, I developed a campaign system that could marry these diverse genres and timespans. A bright and vibrant color palette was also at the forefront of my designs goals — what better color mode to use than RGB? Execution: Inspired by the random flicker of "dots" or "snow" as a result of electronic noise, I developed a system of randomly repeating glitch bands — some with color and others with video stills. The colored bands serve as unifying elements, allowing the video stills to be easily interchanged depending on what video needed to be highlighted. This "noise" and RGB concept was also applied to the exhibit opening party, VIVID.
