Overview: Can't Look Away: The Lure of Horror Film is an ongoing exhibit at EMP Museum that presents an in-depth look at horror and how it’s expressed through cinema, biology, history, and contemporary culture. Project Goals: Given the adult content and themes explored in the exhibit, I wanted to make sure the marketing campaign wasn't too "scary" or inaccessible to families and children since there are great deal of artifacts and interactives suitable for all-ages. Execution: From the beginning, I envisioned an energetic, theatrical, and quirky photographic-driven campaign. I commissioned local photographer Michael Clinard to shoot a series of horror scenes. Clinard and I worked together from initial concept and sketch phases to the ultimate realization on location. To compliment these photographs and to add visual diversity, I used a number of the monster illustrations by Invisible Creature that were commissioned for the exhibit by exhibit designer Benjamin Shown. Shown and I also commisioned New York-based Jon Contino for the logo. The result is a playful campaign that hopefully resonates with horror film buffs and the general public.
